Future Africa Campus Hosts ARUA Board
The ARUA Board convened a two-day meeting on May 23 – 24, 2024, at the Future Africa campus of the University of Pretoria, focusing on the ambitious ARUA-Mastercard Collaborative PhD program initiative. This groundbreaking initiative aims to train 1,000 PhDs annually over the next decade, marking a significant stride toward enhancing research capacity and innovation across the African continent.
This pivotal meeting follows the Annual General Meeting of the Presidents and Vice Presidents of the Worldwide Universities Network (WUN), where ARUA Secretary-General, Professor Ernest Aryeetey, delivered a keynote address titled, “Developing a New Research and Innovation Ecosystem for Africa through Effective Partnership,”. He underscored the critical need for a transformative business model in African research collaboration that allows us to make significant contributions to the global research landscape, driving innovation and development across the continent.
ARUA Vice Chancellors will also join their colleagues from WUN for a conference dinner. This gathering provides a valuable opportunity for further dialogue and collaboration between the two networks, enhancing the impact and reach of their collective efforts.
