Panellist

Professor Peter Quartey holds a PhD in Development Economics from the University of Manchester (UK), MSc in Quantitative Development Economics (University of Warwick, UK), MPhil. Economics (Ghana), and BA Economics (Ghana). He is a Professor in Development Economics and the current Acting Director of the Legon Centre for International Affairs and Diplomacy (LECIAD). He was previously the Director of the Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER), University of Ghana. He has published extensively and his research interests are: Financial and Monetary Sector, Private Sector Development including SMEs, Development Finance, Migration and Remittances and Poverty Analysis. He has consulted for both local and international institutions including the World Bank, African Development Bank, OECD and USAID.

Professor Evelyn Korkor Ansah is the Director of the Centre for Malaria Research, University of Health and Allied Science in Ghana. She is a Public Health Physician, an Epidemiologist, fellow of the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons and a Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Fellow. She holds a degree in Medicine and an MPH from Ghana and a PhD in Clinical Epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. She was the Vice Chair of the Technical Review Panel (TRP) of the Global Fund to fight HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. She currently serves on the World Health Organization’s Malaria Policy Advisory Committee (MPAC) and Malaria Elimination Oversight Committee (MEOC). She also serves on the Technical Evaluation Reference Group (TERG) of the Global Fund to fight HIV/AIDS and Malaria and the Bellagio Academic Selection Panel of the Rockefeller Foundation. She contributes to building capacity among the next generation of Public Health Professionals.

Emerita Prof. Yaa Ntiamoa-Baidu holds a BSc. Zoology Degree from the University of Ghana, a PhD from Edinburgh University and is a Fellow of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences. She is a biodiversity and environmental specialist, who has received several meritorious awards in recognition of her contribution to wildlife research, training, and capacity development in Africa. As an academic, she combines senior level university administrative experience (having risen to the level of Pro-Vice Chancellor – Research, Innovation & Development) with teaching, extension service and research, as well as capacity development for young faculty. Her passion for mentoring and supporting early career faculty has resulted in raising grant funds to support PhD/Mphil candidates of the University of Ghana and other West African universities. Her research has focused on wetland and waterbirds, as well as general wildlife ecology.

Emerita Prof. Takyiwaa Manuh is Ghanaian academic and author. She is an Emerita Professor of the University of Ghana, and until her retirement in May 2017, she served as the Director of the Social Development Policy Division, of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), located in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. She was also the Director of the Institute of African Studies, University of Ghana from 2002 to 2009. She is a fellow of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences. She holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in Law from the University of Ghana, Legon, and the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and a Ph.D in Anthropology from Indiana University, Bloomington. Her research interests are in African development; women’s rights and empowerment; contemporary African migrations, and African higher-education systems.
