Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo

Vice Chair

Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, PhD, FGA, is the (first female) Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana. She assumed office in 2021.  She is a Professor of Linguistics and an experienced university administrator, with over 21 years of experience in the higher education sector.

In January 2024, she became the first female to hold the position and the third vice-chair in the Alliance’s history.

Prof. Sizwe Mabizela

Chair

Prof. Sizwe Mabizela the Principal and Vice-Chancellor of Rhodes University following his appointment in 2014. He was the first black African vice-chancellor at Rhodes University in over 100 years. He is a professor of Mathematics.

Prof. Mabizela served as Vice Chair of ARUA from January 2021 – December 2023. He became the fourth elected Board Chairman of ARUA in January 2024
