ACE-NCD is hosted by the University of Nairobi, Kenya, and is made up of five African Universities among them, the University of Nairobi, Makerere University in Uganda, University of Ghana, University of Ibadan in Nigeria and University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa. ACE-NCD comprises of an international network of researchers across Africa and the rest of the World. ACE-NCD seeks to support research capacity building in the five partner African universities and the less research intensive universities in Africa to address Africa’s complex burden of NCDs through collaborative trans-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary and interdisciplinary research groups across Africa and beyond.
Makerere University is proud to have been given the privilege to host the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Notions of Identity in Africa. This is a CoE of the African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA), a network of universities from different countries and different historical backgrounds, but with a common vision of enhancing research and graduate training in member universities.
The meaning of post-conflict societies in Africa is contentious and widely contested, especially today when Africa’s post-conflict contexts and conflict dynamics have invariably garnered potentials to escalate and de-escalate.
Youth unemployment remains a crucial challenge dominating political thinking on global development agendas. In 2016, more than 600 million youths (young men and women aged between 15-35yrs) constituting about 47.1% of the global population, were unemployed.
The Center for Federalism and Governance Studies (CFGS), established in 2006, is a Department within the College of Law and Governance Studies of Addis Ababa University. It was established with the vision to be a leading center of excellence in teaching, research and consultancy in multilevel government (federalism, devolution, good governance, local government) with a view to promoting unity in diversity, good governance, peace, development and regional integration in the Horn of Africa.
The ARUA Water CoE aims to be a centre for innovative and progressive research, which focuses on the African response to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Water plays a vital role in ensuring equitable, stable and productive societies and functional ecosystems. Hence, the United Nations recognised ensuring sustainable management of water and sanitation as one of the seventeen sustainable development goals (SDGs) (i.e. Goal 6) (https://sustainabledevelopment.un.org/). The CoE recognises that water is the key thread and catalyst to also realising the remaining sixteen SDGs in Africa.
