Dr. Lindiwe Sibanda to take over as CGIAR’s System Board Chair from January 2023
Dr. Lindiwe Majele Sibanda, Head of Centre for ARUA’s Centre of Excellence for Food Security, University of Pretoria, has been announced as the Consultative Group for International Agricultural Research’s (CGIAR) next System Board Chair. She will succeed Marco Ferroni who is stepping down and retiring at the end of December 2022. Her appointment takes effect in January 2023.
The statement announcing her appointment mentions that throughout her distinguished career, “Lindiwe has made substantial contributions to challenges facing global science for agriculture, food systems and the environment. She has a proven track record of harnessing partnerships in research and innovation to drive food systems transformation and foster sustainable food and nutrition security. In addition to formal training in governance and management of change processes, Lindiwe is trained as a multi-cultural dialogue moderator and has a strong track record working with diverse teams in international environments.”
The African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA) Centre of Excellence in Food Security (ACoE) brings together ARUA members from East, West and Southern Africa, and two South African universities as associate members (i.e. Universities of the Western Cape and Fort Hare), as well as a broader consortium of African and international partners working on food security research, policy and capacity development to exponentially increase the networks of each participating institution, and to maximise the translation of knowledge into impact at the grassroots and/or policy levels.
