ARUA Meets with N8 Universities to Plan Collaboration
More than 120 researchers and research managers from 15 ARUA universities and 8 N8 universities gathered at the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research of the University of Ghana on 9-10 May 2018 to consider ways of working together.
The two-day workshop was structured to give the participants several opportunities to develop their common interests in specific aspects of the Sustainable Development Goals into possible research projects. The discussions showed a lot of commonality in the planned programmes of the ARUA Centres of Excellence and all the N8 universities.
The workshop was opened by the British High Commissioner to Ghana, His Excellency Iain Walker, who emphasized the UK Government’s commitment to education and pledged his support to ARUA. The ARUA Secretary-General, Professor Ernest Aryeetey, set the scene for the discussions with a presentation on the research profile of Africa after welcoming participants to Ghana. Professor Stuart Taberner, Dean of Interdisciplinary Research and Professor of German Literature at the University of Leeds briefed participants on how the workshop was structured and what was expected of participants.
At the end of the two days, the participants were unanimous in their observations that the workshop had been very productive, and very much worth the effort.
