ARUA has launched the third Universities Profiles Report.  The online launch dovetailed from the Distinguished Public Lecture. 

The Second ARUA Distinguished Public Lecture has been held on July 30, 2024. Over 160 people joined the online lecture delivered by Professor Funmi Olonisakin, Vice-President of International, Engagement & Service at King’s College London (KCL).

The African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA) and The Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities are intensifying their unique partnership, as Vice-Chancellors and Presidents of the two networks laid the foundations for new types of partnerships, grounded on equity and inclusion.

ARUA Secretary-General Professor Ernest Aryeetey has called on European researchers to help change the trend of research through research collaborations with African researchers that ensures research equity.  

Africa’s future will be determined by the effort that the region makes in pursuit of Agenda 2063 of the African Union and how such effort is amplified in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The effort must be driven by the availability and application of new knowledge in the production of goods and services, as well as in the governance and management of societies. This is what the development and application of new technologies and innovation are all about.

Secretary-General of the African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA), Prof. Ernest Aryeetey has advocated “a situation where global researchers will feel at home in Africa because they can do the same type of research that they would have done in Europe.”

Just ahead of the EU-AU summit, The Guild and African Research Universities Alliance’s (ARUA) panel discussion, organised on 14 February 2022, provided a timely outlook on what is needed to further strengthen African universities and African-European university collaborations in the long-term.

Through the proposed AU-EU Innovation Agenda, announced on 14 February ahead of the AU-EU summit, universities are assuming a central place in the development of AU-EU relations.

Africa has many development aspirations, at the top of which is structural and institutional transformation. This transformation is what will facilitate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and other aspirations.
