28th July 2022

ARUA and Future Africa at University of Pretoria (UP) have agreed to work together in developing joint programmes that assist Early Career Researchers from ARUA universities to have access to world class facilities and programmes as part of their training.

This was among a number of initiatives that the two parties agreed on during a visit to Future Africa by the ARUA Secretary-General, Professor Ernest Aryeetey. He met with Dr. Heide Hickmann, Interim Director of Future Africa and they discussed ways in which both parties could share resources for the advancement of impactful African sciences and their influence on a global stage. The visit to Future Africa formed part of the meetings arranged for Professor Aryeetey during his tour of ARUA universities in South Africa.

The Secretary-General had earlier met with the Vice Chancellor of University of Pretoria, Professor Tawana Kupe, where they explored several options for the growth of ARUA and how UP was going to support the process. Professor Kupe expressed his satisfaction with the growth of ARUA and the direction it was taking.

Professor Aryeetey also had meetings with the DVC (Research, Innovation and Postgraduate Education) Professor Sunil Maharaj, Professor Gerald Ouma, (Senior Director, Institutional Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation), Professor Frans Swanepoel (Director, International Strategic Partnerships) and Dr. Carol Nonkwelo (Director, Department of Research and Innovation).
