The ARUA CoE in Notions of Identity is accepting abstracts for its hybrid International Conference on the theme: “African Identit(ies): Being, Becoming and Belonging in an age of Cosmopolitanization”. The conference will be held from 13th – 15th September 2023 at the Yusuf Lule Central Teaching Facility, Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda.

In November 2022, ARUA launched its second Profiles Report (2018- 2021) at a ceremony in Cape Town. The launch event followed a meeting of ARUA Vice Chancellors hosted by the University of Cape Town. The Vice Chancellors who gathered for the meeting and the launch were generally positive about the report, and this was not surprising since the report showed a positive trend in the performance of their universities. The second Profiles Report can be described as showing some progress with several of the performance indicators considered.
A two day workshop of Heads and Managers of ARUA Centres of Excellence has taken place in Mauritius.
Since 2018, the African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA) and The Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities have established a close partnership, at the heart of which has been a joint appreciation that we can – and must – address global challenges affecting the African and European continents much more effectively if we develop new, long-term partnerships based on equity.
Over 50 participants made up of Deans of Graduate Schools, Science, and Humanities from the 16 member universities of ARUA have met in Kigali, Rwanda to consider the revised PhD Review Report which was put together by HSRC.
Professor Ernest Aryeetey, ARUA Secretary-General has received an honorary doctorate degree from Stellenbosch University.
ARUA on November 3, 2022, launched the second ARUA Performance Report under Phase II of the ARUA-Carnegie Data Gathering and Benchmarking Project. The University of Cape Town hosted the launch event.
